He posted this tutorials for learning a drawing TECHNIQUE FFS. If you use the one in the library, you ain't learning a shit.

You missed the point - it's demonstrating a simple drawing technique. If you use the Custom Shape Tool it doesn't teach you much about Photoshop.

Are you kidding me? you went through all that trouble just to draw a star? use the shape tool and you can get 1 (better one) done in 2 seconds
